WHO WE ARE

Nursing Mother’s Counsel (NMC - California) is a local, non-affiliated organization providing counseling on request. The founding chapter is located in Palo Alto, California. All members are women who have breastfed their own babies and have further informed themselves on matters relating to breastfeeding. They provide women with support, encouragement and personal assistance in matters of breastfeeding. Members also have access to many books and pamphlets on breastfeeding. There is no charge or obligation.

Volunteers : We’d like to introduce you to our members. Every member has successfully breastfed for a minimum of six months. All NMC members are volunteers who contribute time out of their homes.

Policies: A few common misconceptions...

• Working and Nursing - We perceive working and nursing as quite compatible.
• Patient / Doctor Confidence - We make a conscious effort not to interfere with this important relationship. We will facilitate an exchange of information between patient and doctor, but we are not doctors.
• Mother / Infant Separation - It is an individual decision how soon and how often the mother leaves her infant.
