I think you said it best, Jessica...you littel one is eating solids just fine, but seems to still enjoy nursing! "SMART KIDDO!" I feel it is issues like this that makes mommies who they are.. feeling and thinking and strong-willed creatures! That is why we are given "womens' intuition"... yours kicked in and is telling you that it is "OKAY" to still be nursing your little one!
Do your family members knwo of any 17 year olds that are still nursing?? LOL probably not! That is because children are perfectly capable of weaning themselves when they are ready. Weaning should be a very gradual process.. weaning should be "child led, possibly mother guided.." Take cues from your child.
An easy way to answer family and friends when they say things like, "When is that kid going to quit nursing???!" is to say something like "Oh, we're in the process of weaning." and leave it at that. After all it is not a lie.. you begun the gradual weaning process with the baby's first bite of food!!!
Follow your heart and your child... trust your intincts!
