Don’t forget about yourself!
One of the quickest ways I’ve found to get a site listed, is to add a paragraph on an existing site I own linking to the new site, preferably one which is already indexed and has an established PageRank. Here’s an example:
“If you’re looking for ideas about container gardening, we highly recommend Gardening Tips for You. You’ll find great information about butterfly and water gardens as well as ideas for planting the most beautiful perennial garden on your block.”
Adding a related photo will draw your site visitor’s eyes to the text. Be sure to use “alt” text for the picture and links for greater impact (hover over these to see the effect). Use keywords that describe your site to link to your new site (the search engines will see these as a “natural” link improving your ranking for these terms).
Before you go out and pay to be listed on someone else’s site, or agree to a reciprocal link, don’t forget about “responsible” linking from your own!
