Historically the groom wore gold while the bride wore silver rings. It is appropriate that the bride’s wedding ring metal matches that of the engagement ring. A mix of metal is probably not conceivable. In contemporary times the bride also wears gold rings. Ring-wearing are often symbolic. For example, the pre-engagement ring could be given when serious courting commences; the eternity ring is given to reflect the renewal or continuing nature of a lasting marriage, often given after the birth of a first child. The triology ring, typically with three round diamonds, each symbolizing the past, present & the future, in turn, constructs a definitive declaration of “till death do us part”.
Arguably, the most precious of wedding ring metals is the ‘platinum’. It presents the most beautiful piece & requires no plating. It is however expensive to alter should there be a change to finger size later in life. Nevertheless it is quite durable. From the same family as the platinum is the ‘palladium’. Though they both look similar, the palladium costs much less than the platinum. It hence presents a much cheaper option. Another cheaper alternative is the ‘titanium’. These can come inlaid with precious metals like platinum or gold, or they can come in plain patterns. Unlike the platinum or the gold, it is not possible to alter the size of the titanium rings.
